This happens if you haven't connected the faceplate with the volume control and other buttons or if the headlights are active and the brightness setting for headlights is set to low.
Try change it in the brightness setting from smeg.

Finally I have found some spare time and I managed to wire the BSI 2010 on my workbench for my Peugeot 508 
thanks once again to Lip for your wiring diagram post it is very helpful
However I have a couple of issues, 1st, for the diagnostics to communicate I had to connect "EP Noir 60v Pin 8 to Pin 8 on the OBD2 connector" this was easy to workout from the print pdf kindly posted by loile.
My 2nd problem is I don't fully understand the connection "EPB Blue 60v pin 29 to EPB Blue 60v pin 42 for the stop start deactivation switch control" and I don't have the display screen working with this connection 
but if I connect "EPB Blue 60v pin 32 to EPB Blue 60v Pin 19 "(like in Midday's original topic "Build BSI on the workbench" for bsi 2010 for 208 model) " I get the lcd display and control panel illuminating brightly when switching on the power but when the smeg unit has done booting up the lcd display screen goes very dim and is hard to see? Does anyone know how I can fix this problem with the dim display screen?
Next I'll try to configure Smeg+IV2 with carplay for my 508.

I only have this account, I don't use any other account? I think maybe mittns toolbox is not working for me as I try to use it on windows 7 OS ? I want to get another pc with windows 10 installed and try again. I generally use apple mac you see so I cannot run tool box on that.
I think the problem is occurring because I'm not quite sure how to use the toolbox? I will try some more, I will search by vin number from now on and see how I get on.
BTW I have managed to download and install the firmware directly from the citroen main dealer website

Thanks for coming back to me.
I eventually downloaded the licence and firmware file directly from citroens website i went back on and I was able to select the firmware download, which was greyed out earlier?
I tried to create a license file from your tool box and I entered the nac id and firmware version information correctly but I could not down load the file or maybe I did? but I could not use it? the error I got was "Authentication with mittns.de failed"
maybe I just dont know how to use the mittns tool box correctly? what does the license file look like when downloaded from your tool box (does it look like the one from citroen website?) and to where on my pc would it download to from the tool box? I just may need some lessons

sorry maybe I didnt explain thoroughly, I only wanted to create a License file manually for my vehicle because I already had the firmware on a pen drive (which I had downloaded for a different c4) but the license was not for my vehicle so I was just going to swap the license file on the pendrive for my license.

I did not write "the nac does not match my vehicle"? the nac does match the vehicle, the firmware I downloaded was for a different c4 Picasso that I tried to update mine with because I could not dowload mine from citroen site, but it did not work because the license is obviously different for the other C4 picasso?

I have Citroen C4 Grand picasso 2017 model with wave 2 NAC, I want to update the firmware, but I go to citroen website and I can download the maps but not the firmware update, the firmware selection is greyed out so i cannot select it? I know the version of software I need is 001315031613548831 and I now have a copy of this firmware but the license is for a different C4 picasso. my question is I see on the mittns toolbox a possibility to download and create a new license but i'm not sure how to do this? I entered the nac id and firmware version but I get stuck after this point on what to do next? please can someone advise or is it not possible to create a license anymore?

Yes I was using current toolbox 2.2.0.0, attached is a screen shot of the error message, I think it maybe the old windows 7 OS that is the problem? when I have a little more time I will load a later version of windows onto a VM on my mac.
The carpaly funcion for maps I activated in the smeg+ IV2 is working ok but lags and isnt the best, on another note I've ordered a bsi 2010 from ebay it came with the plugs chopped from the vehicles wiring harness attached so gonna build a system to test on the bench.

further to my introduction page comments, i believe i'm now on the correct thread.
Yesterday I received my android phone and after a few hour and many attempts I managed to access the smeg+ IV2 and change the required settings
I tried to use the mittns toolbox but I got an error when trying to extract the up_config files? possibly due to the OS as it is an old pc with window 7. most of my pc's are mac, however when I have more time I will load a later version of windows on a VM and try to run the toolbox again.
I didn't manage to use the arduino with diag box, I think this is a bit advanced for me, more testing is required
